Despite being a flagship, XLPE cables still have major problems with insulation failure in the form of electricity or water applications. Both of these problems originate from partial discharges, which can be determined by the presence of contaminants, such as voids in the cable insulation. The initial damage to an isolation system is characterized by the presence of a Partial Discharge (PD) event. PD is a form of electrical discharge that occurs only in some isolation systems that can initiate complete isolation failure. To know the PD mechanism that occurs in the insulation material, then the measurement and testing are done.} }
