Transformer is a fundamental component which is crucial in substation. Therefore, to overcome the lighting surge from damaging the transformer in the substation, a lighting surge protection is necessary to prevent an arcing horn from incoming transformer. Arcing horn stake is attached on the last transmission line while the lightning arrester is installed inside the substation near the transformer. To secure the transformer in the Lubuk Alung 150 kV substation from lightning surges, it can be analysed using four conditions. From the four available possibility, which are arrester 1 and arrester 2 are in good condition, arrester 1 is broken and arrester 2 is good, arrester 1 is good and arrester 2 is broken, and arrester 1 and arrester 2 are broken. It is obtained that a transformer will be safe from lightning surges if only protected by one arrester but better If it is equipped with two arresters. However, it is very dangerous if the arrester is not installed to the system which cause the damaged of the transformer due to the voltage on the transformer is 939.06 kV, exceed the transformer BIL value of 650 kV.} }
