So the distribution substation is one of the most important components in a distribution system.Themost in the important componenta indistributionsubstation isthe transformer.The transformerservesas a voltage lowering (stepdown transformer), which reduces the voltage of 20 kV (medium voltage) to 400/230 V (low voltage). Because the transformer is connected to an air channel of 20kV and its placement in the open place so that the transformer can be interrupted by overvoltages due to direct lightning strikes or indirect lightning strikes (induction). Lightning strikes will cause higher voltage beyond the transformer's isolation capability so that it can cause fatal insulation damage. To prevent this from happening, each 20 kV distribution transformer installation at each distribution substation is always equipped with lightning arresters. Disturbances due to lightning surges can enter electronic equipment. Semiconductor components inside are very susceptible to overvoltages. Many electronic equipment uses button type arrester (Button Typed Surge Protection Device) as overvoltage protection due to lightning surges. This article discusses the effectiveness of the low voltage arrester testing method for electronic components. Based on testing and analysis, it is known that the arrester testing method that has been carried out is effective in determining the level of protection of low voltage arresters. The test results show that the arrester has a cutting 259,916 v if the voltage of the implus lighting fine.} }
