Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk menjelaskan hermeneutik simbol sumpah to? pao dalam konteks budaya Mamasa dan kontribusinya dalam relasi komunal di Mamasa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan hermeneutik. Adapun pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara dan kajian dokumen terkait. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sumpah to? pao adalah simbol dalam budaya Mamasa, yang nilai-nilainya masih berlaku dan diterapkan dalam kehidupan dan disesuaikan dengan konteks masyarakat saat ini. Sumpah to? pao lahir sebagai bentuk penyelesaian konflik atau menghindari kutukan yang terjadi pada masa lalu, yang nilai-nilainya dijadikan sebagai pedoman dalam menata kehidupan masyarakat Mamasa.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to explain the hermeneutics of the to' pao oath symbol in the context of Mamasa culture and its contribution to communal relations in Mamasa. This study uses a qualitative method with a hermeneutic approach. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews and review of related documents. The results of the study indicate that the to' pao oath is a symbol in Mamasa culture, whose values are still valid and applied in life and are adjusted to the context of today's society. The to' pao oath was born as a form of conflict resolution or avoiding curses that occurred in the past, whose values are used as guidelines in organizing the lives of the Mamasa community.
