title ={DEVELOPMENT OF AN ENGLISH SPEAKING SYLLABUS
FOR THE THIRD GRADE OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AT
SD MUHAMMADIYAH 2 GRESIK:
A PROPOSED DESIGN},
year={2010},

abstract={Developing a Standard English Speaking Syllabus for the Third Grade of
Elementary School of SD Muhammadiyah 2 Gresik is important to do due to the
school does not have one. This syllabus is helpful for the school to establish the
students? English speaking competencies and determine the success indicators of
the English teaching and learning process, for the teachers to make specific
speaking lesson plans in line with the competencies, develop teaching materials,
and design the evaluation contents and for the next researchers to get basic inputs
or suggestions for their further studies in developing English Speaking Syllabus.
This syllabus development is based on the theory of Steven J. Mc Griff being
well-known as ADDIE model.
The procedure employed in this developmental study are conducting
analysis, designing the proto-syllabus, developing the pedagogical syllabus,
implementing the syllabus in the classroom, and evaluating the results of the
syllabus being implemented. The information needed for the analysis to design the
syllabus is gathered through questionnaire (for the students) and interview (for the
school?s staff and English teachers).
The analysis shows that speaking has the highest degree of the students?
interests in the Third Grade of SD Muhammadiyah 2 concluded from the results
of the implementation of the syllabus in the classroom. The subjects of the
syllabus try out were the students of the academic year 2010-2011.
The developed English Speaking Syllabus perhaps could be used for the
third grade students of SD Muhammadiyah 2 Gresik. This product is hopefully
able to motivate the other researchers to create new English Syllabus for other
English language skill and develop learning materials being used for the third
grade students of SD Muhammadiyah 2 Gresik. The final version of the English
Speaking Syllabus is presented in Appendix 5.}
