		abstract={Background : The emergence of the phenomenon of delinquency in school-age children has recently become a worrying problem. Children's lives are marked by various juvenile delinquency, evidence of weakness is in parenting, this pattern of behavior is felt by children both negatively and positively. The parenting style named for each family is different. This depends on the views of each parent. The phenomenon of smoking in everyday life often occurs in many places, such as public places and schools, this smoking behavior begins at school age when children are in
elementary school and junior high school.
Objective : To identify the relationship between parenting and smoking behavior in school-age children.
Methods : Non-experimental research based on retrospective and descriptive correlation approach. The sample size in this study was 50 respondents in the Islamic village of Tuminting sub-district, Manado city, selected using a non-probability method. The analytical test used is the Spearman rank test.
Results : The results of the Spearman rank test were significant between parenting and smoking behavior in school-age children, for parenting and smoking behavior, the value of sig (0,286) was significant. The parenting pattern of parents is more democratic parenting by 38% and smoking behavior of children more light smoking behavior by 80%.
Conclusion : There is a relationship between parenting and smoking behavior in school-age children. This is motivated by factors that cause children to smoke where parents often smoke in front of their children, children also often see advertisements on tv, association with fellow smokers and peers.
