This research analyze figurative language in poetry written by sixth semester English students at Muhammadiyah University of Metro. The objectives of the research were to describe types and contextual meanings of figurative language used in poetry written by students. Descriptive qualitative design was used to classify and analyze the data. The techniques used in collecting the data were assignment and documentation. Meanwhile, in analyzing the data, the researchers applied qualitative descriptive. This research found 46 sentences using figurative language divided into 10 types comprises four similes, three metaphors, ten hyperboles, eight personifications, four metonymies, four synecdoches, four repetitions, one irony, seven paradoxes, and one litotes. It was found that there are 46 figurative languages that have contextual meaniang between the figurative language and the sentence.} }
