Many students now have difficulty in learning English, especially in reading good and correct English, which then affects their speaking ability. However, modern technological advances today provide many alternatives to assist students in improving English language learning, one of which is in the context of language learning through film. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of English Film Subtitles in Improving the Reading Comprehension Ability of Grade II Students of SMP Negeri 6 Semarang. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of students' reading comprehension skills before and after applying English Film Subtitles; And to find out whether there are significant differences for students in mastering their reading comprehension before and after being taught using this method. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design involving 34 students as a research sample. The research was conducted through several stages as follows: pre-test, treatment, post-test. Data collection was obtained from pre-test and post-test results. Researchers analyzed data using Microsoft SPSS version 25.The results showed that the learning outcomes of students who were taught without using English film subtitles were lower than the learning outcomes of students who were taught with English film subtitles shown with an average pre-test score of 57.50 and post-test 86.47.Furthermore, the analysis of data normality on the Wilcoxon test showed Asymp.Sig. (2-tailed) 0.000<0.005 means the hypothesis is accepted. Using the Wilcoxon test because there is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test results. This significance is supported by students' perceptions which show that 86% more, students state that their English skills improve when learning to use English film subtitles. Researchers concluded that English Film Subtitles are beneficial for students in improving English reading comprehension.} }
