Advisor II: Indri Kustantinah, S.S., M.Hum Keywords: Vernacular, To Kill a Mockingbird This study focused on finding the vernacular used by the character in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The objective of this study are (1) To find out the vernacular used by the character in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, (2) To find out the meaning of the vernacular used by the character in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, (3) To find out the contribution of vernacular to the study of Sociolinguistics. This study used qualitative descriptive as the research design. The results of data finding were divided into two sub-numbers which were vernacular based on phonology feature which taken from the audiobook version of To Kill a Mockingbird and vernacular based on grammatical feature which use the written version of the novel. In phonology features, there are three vernaculars found based on its phonological patterns such as ?-in?? ending, ?-d? dropping, and pronunciation construction. In grammatical features, there are three vernaculars found based on its lexical and grammatically patterns such as pronominal ?y?all?, modal auxiliary combinations such as might could, and inchoative ?fixin? to? as ?about to?. The contribution of vernacular found in this study are expected to the Sociolinguistics class. Therefore finally, the benefit of this study are (1) Students able to get and enrich their vocabularies by discovering the vernaculars found in this study, (2) Students get more example in vernacular of SAE (South-American English) in To Kill a Mockingbird which tends to have humorous and sarcastic conversation, (3) Students can get referential data and meaning to broaden their knowledge in vernacular or when they want to do the same research in vernacular language.} }
