The objectives of the research are: (1) to find out the students? reading comprehension before they are taught by using Context Clues strategy (2) to find out the students? reading comprehension after they are taught by using Context Clues strategy (3) to find out whether there is significant difference between students? reading comprehension before and after being taught by using Context Clues strategy. This research used pre-experimental. The design of the research was pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research was the seventh grade of SMPN 2 Jatinegara. There were five classes of the seventh grade in SMPN 2 Jatinegara. The writer took 32 students from class VII B as the sample. The result of this study shows that; a) before the students had been given the treatment, the mean score of pre-test was 66,25; b) after the students had been given the treatment, the mean score of post- test was 80,84; c) there were significant difference between before and after being taught by using context clues strategy in the seventh grade students of SMPN 2 Jatinegara. It can be seen in the result of t-test was 11,507 and t-table was 2,040 it means that t-test was higher than t-table (11,507 > 2,040). English teacher may try to apply context clues strategy in reading comprehension because it has many advantages.} }
