Faculty of Education PGRI University Semarang. 2020. Dr. M.Th. S.R. Retnaningdyastuti, M.Pd., Desi Maulia, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist. The context that drives this research is the emotional maturity of the individual to be one of the aspects of the Student Independent Competency Standards (SKKPD) as stated in the signs for the implementation of Counseling Guidance in formal education. Emotional maturity is influenced by the individual's ability to regulate emotions. This study focuses on students' experiences of regulating emotions through Javanese dance. The purpose to be achieved in this study is to determine the experience of students regulating emotions through Javanese dance. This type of research is a qualitative phenomenological study with the IPA (Interpreative Phenomenological Analysis) approach. The process of acquiring participants uses a purposive technique. Participants in this study were four Javanese dancer students who are members of the Student Activity Unit of the Karawitan Studio and Student Dance (UKM Sangkatama) PGRI University Semarang. This research data was obtained through online interviews, observation and documentation, due to the COVID-19 pandemic imposed by the PSBB (Large-Scale Social Restrictions) so that face-to-face meetings with participants were not possible. The results of the analysis of interviews, observation and documentation show three main themes, namely emotional regulation strategies, principles as dancers, and positive self-development. Javanese dance is not only a beautiful art, but also leads participants to live their lives, gives color to their lives, and affects them physically and psychologically, especially emotionally. Based on the results of this study, the suggestion that can be conveyed is that Javanese dance can be used as an alternative media to help the process of providing guidance and counseling services with emotional disorders counselees. The use of these media such as catharsis media for expressing emotions, as an exercise in managing emotions through Javanese dance, and interpreting dance movements to be implemented in everyday life.
