The objectives of this study are (1) to find out the cultural values that are presented
in In Heart of the Sea movie, (2) to find out the contribution of In Heart of the Sea movie
fro Cross Cultural Understanding. This study descrpitive quality research. The movie
entitled In Heart of the Sea is the primary object in this final project. The type of
cultural values in In Heart of the Sea movie is American cultural values. American
cultural values that are reflected in the movie are food and eating habits, beliefs and
attitude, giving compliment, time and its control, informality, action work or orientation,
drinking alcohol, personal control over the environment, change seen as natural and
positive, directness or openness or honesty, particality or efficiency, and materialism or
acquisitiviness. Those appropriate with the survey and theories. There is also a
differences cultural value betweem American and Indonesia cultural value based on the
move. The differences is how their eating habits and drinking alcohol. In Heart of the
Sea movie contribute in Cross Culture Understanding. This study can be a tool to help
the students understand the culture from English speaking country and the students can
compare the Indonesian cultural values with the cultural values reflected in hte movie. In
Heart of the Sea movie also can be a material to teach Cross Culture Understanding
especially to teach English speaking country cultural values.}
