		abstract={This study is entitled ?The Self-concept of Elderly People at Balai Pelayanan Sosial Tresna
Wreda Unit Budi Luhur Yogyakarta?. Balai Rehabilitasi Sosial Tresna Wreda, commonly
abbreviated as BPSTW is a State Social Service Centre under the Department of Social Well fare.
Tresna Wreda is one of many many centers run by the departement and it focus to help the
homeless elderly peoples. Budi Luhur is one unit under the coordination of BPSTW. This study
aims to (1) Describe the self-concept of the elderly at BPSTW Unit Budi Luhur Yogyakarta, (2)
Explain factors that influence the formation of the self-concept of the elderly at BPSTW Unit Budi
Luhur Yogyakarta. This study use qualitative methods. The data collection techniques used are
interview, observation, and documentation. Researchers took three (3) elderly people as
respondent of the research. The results are: (1) Elderly people in Social Services Center Tresna
Werdha Unit Budi Luhur Yogyakarta have similar general theme of self concept. On the other
hand, there are differences in detailed themes of their self concept. The themes of social concept
aroused from their past experiences. (2) the most influential factor in the formation of self-concept
in the elderly people at the Social Service Center Tresna Werdha Unit Budi Luhur Yogyakarta is
Age, the more they age, the more their thought patterns are formed so that they are able to change
their self-concept from negative to positive self-concept. The supporting factors in the process of
the formation of the elderly self-concept are from the Social Service Center environment where
they stay.}
