Case of Eastern Indonesia xii + 50 pages; 6 tables; 3 graphs; 2 figures; 3 appendix; 2015 In recent years the school enrollment rates in basic education level have increased sharply in Indonesia. But, girls, especially in rural area, are still disadvantaged. This study investigates determinant of school enrollment of children age 7-15 in general and rural area specifically. Using probit estimation on cross-sectional data from Indonesian Family Life Survey - East (IFLSEast) 2012, this study explores possible explanations for the disparity between boys and girls in seven provinces in East Indonesia. The study finds parental and community education level generally has a strong effect in enrollment decision. However, maternal education has stronger effect on girls enrollment than paternal does and children who lived with higher average years of schooling in his or her community are more likely to go to school. Furthermore, girls with higher birth order and have more siblings are less likely to go to school. Keywords: rural, girls, enrollment, IFLS East} }
