The purpose of this research was to describe the ability of tenth grade students in writing announcement at SMAN2 Kota Solok. The researcher used descriptive method for this research. The population of this research was the tenth grade students at SMAN 2 Kota Solok who registered in the academic year 2022/2023. The researcher used cluster random sampling technique to select the sample, and the number of sample was 40 students. Instrument for collecting the data in this research was writing test in the form of writing announcement. To make the test reliable the researcher used inter-rater method. The result of analysis showed that the test was reliable. It was supported by the fact that the coefficient correlation was 0.962. It was bigger than the value of r table at df 38 and alpha .05 (.312). Then the test was valid in terms of content because it had covered all materials that students had learnt.
Generally, the students had high ability in writing announcement (to express the content, to use generic structure, to use vocabulary, to use language features, and to apply mechanics). It was supported by the fact that 18 students (45%) had high ability in writing announcement. In detail, 17 students (42,5%) had moderate ability to use content of announcement, 20 students (50%) had very high ability to use generic structure of announcement, 32 students (80%) had high ability to use vocabulary of announcement, 21 students (52,5%) had moderate ability to use mechanics of announcement, and 36 students (90%) had low ability to use language features of announcement. 
By having known that the students had high ability in writing announcement, the researcher gives some suggestions. Because the students ability in language feature is low, it?s suggested to the teacher to improve students ability about language feature. It?s suggested to future researcher to investigate students ability in other genre and focused on the same aspects.}
