		abstract={Mental retardation is a situation of children with low intelligence since the time of development. Children who are mentally retarded have several weaknesses in everyday life such as personal hygiene. Parenting patterns have an important role in the formation of independence in children with mental retardation. This review study aims to identify the relationship between parenting and personal hygiene independence in children with mental retardation based on an empirical study of the last 5 years. Literature review research design using 4 databases of electronic libraries (e-Resources library, Science Direct, Google Scholar and Pro Quest) with inclusion criteria using Cross Sectional and Systematic design studies or Literature Reviews, in the form of Indonesian and English. Using the keywords "parenting style", "personal hygiene", "mental retardation". Found 10 articles that match the inclusion criteria. The contributing factors in this study were mostly cross-sectional. Assessment in 10 journals, that the parenting style shows a significant relationship to personal hygiene in children with mental retardation. That the parenting style of parents shows a significant relationship with personal hygiene in children with mental retardation, where the condition of democratic parenting of parents can affect the creation of children's independence in performing personal hygiene. So it shows that there is a relationship between parenting styles and personal hygiene independence in children with mental retardation. It is hoped that respondents can maintain their own health in order to avoid illness in children with mental retardation.
