Research design that the researcher used is qualitative descriptive with purposive sampling technique to get the research subject. The subject of the study was the class eight E students of SMPS Maitreyawira Tanjungpinang in the Academic Year of 2018/2019, which consisting of 30 students. The researcher got the data by used English figurative test to the students. But, the researcher just focuses in four types of fi gurative language. The result of this study is the students? ability in figurative language is low, specifically four type of figurative language (alliteration, hyperbole, metaphor and personification). This supported by the fact that among 30 students, there were only 6.67% got excellent score, 6.67% got good score, 16.67% got average score and 70% got poor score. Based into the class average percentage, the students in the class VIII.E got 38.67%, means poor ability.} }
