		abstract={Bintan Island is a cruise dense shipping area. Waves are an important factor for sea shipping activities. The purpose of this study is to determine wind direction and speed and characteristics of ocean waves. Hindcasting of ocean wave start by processing sea surface wind by downloaded from European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), data will be extracted through Ocean Data View (ODV). This study uses the SPM method (Shore Protection Manual) by using wind speed and direction data. The maximum wave height of 2018 on the northern coast of Bintan Island is around 1.97 m with a period of 7.39 s. While the minimum wave height of 2018 on the northern coast of Bintan Island is 0.07 m with a period of 0.4 s.}
