More specifically this research is classified as a case study. The object of this research is the utterances uttered by the English teacher of class XI IPS 3 during the teaching and learning process in the classroom. Data in the form of words, phrases, and utterances used by the teacher. The researcher plays the role of the main instrument where he is involved in all processes of this research from design research to data reports. Data obtained by making observations accompanied by audio recordings. The data were, then, transcribed into written form, selected to suit the research objectives, recorded into data sheets, interpreted and analyzed using the speech action theory proposed by Searle, and the data analyzed using qualitative methods. The research findings show that there are five types of speech acts performed by the teacher, namely directive, assertive, declarative, expressive and commissive. The most frequently used illocutionary act is directive (42%), followed by assertive (32%), declarative (12%), expressive (8%) and lastly commissive (4%). The illocutionary style used by the teacher varies. Asking seems to be the most dominant illocutionary power (21 data). The teacher uses questions so that students participate more actively in the learning process and assess how well students understand the material that has been provided during the teaching and learning process.} }
