abstract={Social competence is a very important competency possessed by the teachers of Islamic Studies in order to make the teaching and learning process run well. The aim of this study is to investigate the principal’s efforts in improving the social competency standards of Islamic Studies teachers at SMPN 1 Hutabargot in Mandailing Natal Regency. The subjects of this study are the principal and the teachers of Islamic Studies at SMPN 1 Hutabargot. This study uses a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques consist of observation, interviews, and documentation. Furthermore, the data are presented in an appropriate form to make them easy to read and understand. The results of this study show that the principal’s efforts in improving the social competency standards of Islamic Studies teachers at SMPN I Hutabargot in Mandailing Natal regency are as follows: 1). Conducting particular trainings; 2). Creating competition activities; 3). Providing examples and motivation; 4). Participating in community activities; and 5). Giving rewards.}
