Abstract :
The electrical power system to supply power from power plant to consumers through a network of electrical power that the electrical power distribution transmission line through a high voltage overhead line (SUTT) sometimes through areas with a high potential for lightning strikes. Thus necessary grounding, so when the struck the tower or ground wire, then the lightning stroke current will flow into the ground through the tower. In the area of high potential for lightning strikes, grounding required type of counterpoise. Counterpoise which is a conducter mounted horizontally in the soil. Counterpoise effective length when there is lightning currents flowing in the high voltage overhead line towers. Thus essay is done to assess the effectivelength of counterpoise in a state of being energized by lightning. In this paper calculated the effective length of the counterpoise with various soil resistivity wavefront impulse and impulse currents.
