Abstract :
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency building is the center of monitoring activities for natural phenomena that might occur in Indonesia. DKI Jakarta is potential area prone to lightning strikes which has a fairly large thunder day, because it is known from observations BMKG shows almost as a whole region of DKI Jakarta in the period the year 2018 recorded day Thunder per year reached 193 days of Thunder per year. We know that high buildings vulnerable to lightning strikes directly (Cloud-to-ground). It is certainly causing concern related to the comfort or security activities performed on a building, especially the building of BMKG. Considering that the BMKG building is located in DKI Jakarta, which has a fairly high thunder day, of course it requires a building protection system from lightning strikes. Noting the important function of this system is to protect the building from the danger of lightning strikes, need a periodic inspection to maintain and maintain work system and keep the installation long-lived. The analyzes used in the evaluation of lightning protection systems in buildings and the level of risk of lightning strikes using the PUIPP standard 1983, IEC 1024-1-1 and NFPA 780. Based on this analysis, the NFPA loss value of 8.3 (potential impact) suitable weight and protection strikes are ESEAT prevectron type ?T 60 µs efficiency and 4 m height with the obtained radius is 72,648 m, because it provides safe protection and not excessive radius. This thesis will evaluate an external lightning protection system for BMKG buildings using the Early Stream Emission Air Terminal (ESEAT)
