ABSTRACT
Along with the development of power generation technology and the business of selling electricity, energy storage has proven to be making a difference. Energy storage media is one of the methods utilized to balance out the variability of intermittent renewable energy sources. Energy storage type varies, one of which is a battery, has two functions in the interconnection network. The first is to optimize the Electricity Production Cost in the interconnection system by storing electrical energy (charging the battery) during the low demand periods where the energy value is cheaper and selling the energy (discharging the battery) during peak demand periods where its value is at the highest. The second funtion is to provide ancilliary service capacities for balancing and stabilizing system parameters such frequency control, spinning reserves, including balancing out intermittent outputs of grid connected Solar PV and / or Wind Units. In this study, the battery used is a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 240 MWh. The results of this study show that the estimated Battery Life Cycle Cost of Rp 49.000.000.000 can streamline Electricity Production Cost by Rp 67,41 / kWh and generate profits of Rp 914 / kWh for 75 years (5 times replacement of 15 year battery life). The Utility-Scale Battery has a relatively high ramp rate of 20% / second, which is sufficient for compensating fluctuations of intermittent power output from Solar PV and / or Wind generating units.
