Abstract :
One of the operating conditions of a synchronous generator is the loss of excitation, which is a condition where the lack of excitation will cause the generator to go out of sync ie above the synchronous speed and work as an induction generator. This will affect the stability of the system, because the generator that loses its excitation will draw reactive power (MVAR) from the system, and can cause the stator core to experience a short circuit or a ground circuit. To prevent the loss of excitation from happening, a protection field amplifier is needed in the synchronous generator. In this final project will discuss excitation loss protection coordinated with the generator capability curve, namely by changing the capability curve to the characteristic excitation relay relay diagram depicted in the R-X diagram, and the excitation loss interference on the synchronous generator with settings for the XB-setting value (setting limit upper limit synchronous reactance) is 13,513 ohms or -0.13 p.u with a delay time of 0.2 seconds then the XA-setting value (lower limit synchronous reactance setting settings) 285,862 ohms or -2.75 p.u with a delay time of 0.2 seconds. From the results of tests that have been done it can be said that the relay is missing the excitation is still in good condition and can work according to its function.
