Abstract :
In a 3 phase motor that is initially silent when a normal voltage is applied to the stator it will require a large current on the primary winding. 3 phase induction motors when powered on directly will require a current of 8 times the nominal current and capable of generating a torque of 2.5 times that of the nominal torque at the starting motor using Direct On Line starting. The amount of current and initial torque required on Direct On Line starting this can cause winding on the motor to heat so that the motor will experience a decrease in efficiency, both the motor power efficiency used at the start and reduced motor life time due to frequent motor is operated in a state high currents. Therefore, it is necessary to initiate the starting type which is capable of muffle the starting current, one of which is Start Delta starting. With the use of Start Delta starting it has a smaller start current compared to the previous start of 1.5 times the nominal current.
