Abstract :
Breakdown voltage is an important indicator in determining whether the quality of the insulation of an insulator is good or bad, including liquid insulation. Breakdown voltage of liquid insulation is different for each different type of oil. There are several things that influences the decline in value of breakdown voltage and insulation qualities of this liquid insulator, one of which is age of the transformer oil. The age of transformer oil is calculated based on the length of the oil itself is used in the transformer. On the condition of purity used oil will be contaminated by other substances mixed in the oil, the result of oil will become impure and degraded dielectric strength that will ultimately reduce the level of insulation failure. Standard breakdown voltage in good condition according to IEC 60156-95 is minimum 80 kV/cm for oil transformer used, whereas the result obtained through testing of breakdown voltage is <80 kV/cm. Testing the transformer oil?s age to breakdown voltage is necessary to know the degradation of transformer oil breakdown voltage as one indicator of the merits of a transformer liquid insulation.
