Abstract :
The development of electricity infrastructure in Indonesia owned both by PT. PLN (Persero) and private sector or IPP (Independent Power Producer) still
imports a lot of equipment from abroad, due to the limitation of local manufacturers capability for producing such equipment. The local manufacturers are still having no capability for producing equipment for power
plants especially in large capacity. However, Reverse engineering is needed to reduce the dependency from OEM (Origin Equipment Manufacturer) for the
electricity utility sector in Indonesia. Instead of dependency reduction from foreign vendors Reserve engineering also increases the Domestic Content
Level (TKDN) in power industry, speed up the procurement duration, and reduce cost production of electricity. Reverse engineering indirectly will
improve the capability of local vendors to produce more equipment based on the existing used materials specification. The objective of this study is
investigate the effect of reverse engineering to reduction of maintenance on PLN?s coal fired power plants in Indonesia and its other related issues.
