Abstract :
The Muara Karang steam power plant with a capacity of 2 x 200 MW use a sea water cooling system. The cooling water is supplied from Circulating Water Pump (CWP) is then entered into the condenser which serves to cool the steam that comes from the low pressure turbine in the exhaust back into the sea via a canal outfall. Sea water in the exhaust outfall canal still has power potential which is large enough to be reused into electrical energy. Speed sea water flowing in the canal outfall of 2,47 m / s and the discharge of water generated at 78,24 m3 / s. The purpose of this study was to determine flow characteristics and the amount of water power potential in Muara Karang power plant outfall canal. From the result of research is obtained, the flow of water in the Outfall is a flow without the head so that it has a kinetic energy and potential water power alone at Muara Karang power plant outfall canal of 238,67 kW
