Abstract :
In electric power system, the generation system takes a important parts of the electricity supply needs in Indonesia, especially the Steam Power Plant (PLTU) system. The PLTU uses coal as fuel which is used to produce steam from the steam power plant (boiler) of the PLTU, which will be channeled to the turbine power plant, where the steam supply on the turbine is regulated by the governor. By setting the governor control system, it is closely related to setting the generator's active power and setting the generator frequency. PID control (DIFFERENTIAL INTEGRAL PROPORTIONAL) is chosen as a control system that is used to control or assist the governor's working system in stabilizing frequency of the system. By using the SIMULINK method in MATLAB software, in relation to the governor's work system in Suralaya PLTU system. By controlling PID using the Ziegler-Nichols type 1 method, it is considered to improve the governor's working system in returning frequency changes with a maximum value decreasing at 4.5x10-4 x 50 Hz or 0.0225 Hz for 1.3 seconds and reaching a stable frequency again in time 10.05 seconds
