Abstract :
The heat treatment is a combination of heating and cooling operations to metals or alloys in solid state with an interval of detention that, heat treatment is given to metals or alloys to obtain certain properties. The heat treatment process
varies depending on the purpose of the heat treatment itself, which commonly refers to the mechanical properties and microstructure of the material. In this study we want to learn is the effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties and microstructure. The heat treatment process is carried out by the method of quenching and tempering method performed on steel Ni laterite 1.1 Cr.1,4 Mn.2,8. Variations tempering temperature of 100oC, 200oC, 300oC and 400oC for 1 hour. The results of this study showed that the higher the tempering temperature is increasingly reducing the hardness and tensile strength of steel laterite Cr.1,4 1.1 Mn. 2.8 Ni. In this study, namely mechanical testing of tensile
test, Vickers hardness test and microstructure testing.
