Abstract :
Paving blocks are also called concrete bricks with one of the constituent materials of cement. Produce paving blocks that have good strength, very much depends on the material contained in it. One of them is by utilizing side products from agricultural products, namely corn cob ash waste which has silica content. In this research, the making of paving blocks with substitution material for corn cobs as a substitute for cement. Comparison of materials for making paving blocks is 1 (cement): 4 (sand). The purpose of the study was to determine the value of compressive strength and the level of water absorption and the optimum composition of the substitution material for corn cob ash waste on paving blocks. The variation of corn cobs ash used in the mixture of paving block making materials is 0% ATJ waste, 2.5% ATJ waste, 5% ATJ waste, 7.5% ATJ waste and 10% ATJ waste. Compressive strength testing was carried out at the age of 7 days, 14 days and 28 days and for water absorption testing was carried out at 28 days. The results of the paving block study using corn cob ash waste as cement substitution found that the optimum composition was found in V? (5% corn cob ash waste) with a compressive strength of 19.33 MPa and the absorption percentage was 4.09%. Based on SNI 03-0691-1996, the paving blocks produced in this study include quality B which can be used for parking lots.
