Abstract :
Soil characteristics have a great influence on the carrying capacity of the soil against the above load. If the soil characteristics with mineral content are not strong enough to support the load above, it will cause damage to the construction it supports. Clay soils have very little soil carrying capacity so they can easily change in volume. A decrease (consolidation) of the soil occurs due to the release of pore water from the soil due to the loading on it, causing a change in volume. Therefore, it is necessary to repair or stability the soil to get the desired soil properties so that construction damage can be prevented. Mixing vulcanized tire powder waste with clay soil is one way to improve soil by chemical means. clay that will be used for this research is the construction of 6 Toll Roads in the City of DKI Jakarta. The purpose of this research is to know the magnitude of influence and the maximum percentage of the addition of vulcanized tire powder waste with a variation of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% of the weight of the original soil. The results obtained optimum percentage of the addition of waste tire vulcanizing powder is on the soil with a mixture of 10% with a value of 50.7440% moisture content, specific gravity 2,3969, liquid limit 59,5855%, plastic limit 26,7310%, plastic index 32,8540%, Shrinkage limit 27,4084%, consolidation coefficient (Cv) 0,0340 cm2 / second and compression index (Cc) 0,4003. The smaller the compression index value, the smaller the decrease that occurs and the greater the value of the consolidation coefficient, the faster the soil reaches the hard or stable layer. With the existence of a small compression will be able to minimize construction damage. From the results of research using vulcanized tire powder waste can improve clay tenah condition.
