Abstract :
Basically, soft soils have technically disadvantageous types of soil to support a construction work. The properties of soft soil are high in water content but difficult to drain due to low permeability and great compressibility, causing a large decrease in a long time. Based on this, a solution is needed in the form of soft soil improvement. The soil repairs carried out on the Kunciran - Cengkareng Freeway project are using the preloading method. But the preloading method is not suitable to be implemented. This research study was conducted to determine the magnitude and duration of land subsidence by comparing the Preloading and Prefabricated Vertical Drain ( PVD ) methods by means of modeling and simulation based on finite element method with the help of PLAXIS geotechnical software. From the calculation results obtained a large decrease for the preloading method is 1.0513 m with a consolidation time of 262 years. The magnitude of the reduction for the PVD method was 0.10653 m with a consolidation time of 0.1945 years.
