Abstract :
One part of the cooling water system that often experiences problems is the shaft seal (shaft seal filter segment). If the weather conditions are rainy, it is certain that the shaft seal will work continuously due to the unsupportive water quality due to the unit's cooling system using direct river water. The shaft seal filter is a component of the cooling system that functions to filter water from dirt (garbage & sediment) to flow into the shaft seal turbine. The cooling cycle used is an open cycle, where used water is discharged directly into the tail race. By using the backwash system on the shaft seal filter, the performance of the shaft seal is greatly increased by 1 Bar. This shows that modification of the shaft seal filter with the backwashing system is very useful for the performance of a component and also useful for maintenance colleagues there. With the flow rate of the Cooling Water Pressure for the 0.86 m3/min backwashing system, flow to the shaft seal filter can improve the performance of the shaft seal because the shaft seal filter washing process is more optimal than before.
