Abstract :
The electricity supply in Indonesia is still not evenly distributed, especially for people living in villages / hinterlands that are difficult to reach by PLN, therefore the authors are interested in making a small generator so that it can be used by rural communities. The purpose of this study is to design and test the ability of a single-phase axial flux permanent magnet generator with 8 permanent magnets at a maximum rotational speed of 500 rpm. This research uses kuantitative experiment methods. The research subjects used are axial flux permanent magnet generators. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis with data collection techniques, namely laboratory observation using testing instruments. The conclusion of this research is that it can be seen that in the 1 mm air gap the generator cannot rotate and the highest voltage is obtained when the air gap is 3 mm at a speed of 500 rpm. However, at the air gap of 3 mm there is often friction between the rotor and the stator due to the lack of stability when the generator is rotated. So that the optimal air gap distance is at 5 mm. Less than 5 mm, the generator works poorly, but if it is more than 5 mm, the voltage and power produced are still far fromexpected.
