Abstract :
A superheater tube of boiler that suffered damage in the form of rupture of the tube with a shape like a fish's mouth. The condition of the tube has undergone a process of overheating on the entire surface of the tube and thinning on the walls. Failure analysis is done through a few things which include visual observation, measurement of the wall tube thickness, fractography macro and micro examination, metallographic testing, hardness testing, testing of the chemical composition of materials and testing the chemical composition of the scale. The results of the analysis of an individual compared to the standard and the existing references. Test results on the chemical composition of the scale, there is a very dominant element, namely Sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl). Metallographic observations showed that there had been under deposite corrosion on microstructure and scale formed on the surface of the tube. Based on the entire results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the cause of the failure of superheater tubes is water quality is not good, forming a scale on the superheater tubes and cause overheating.
