Abstract :
The private usage system of power plant requires a protection system on the relay, especially on overcurrent relay (OCR) as safety equipment from a three-phase short-circuit. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the relay setting on 0,4 kV BFT transformer by calculating the appropriate Time Multiplier Setting (TMS) value based on the equation of the IEC 60255-3 standard to prevent any failures on the relay. From the calculation, it is obtained that the three-phase short-circuit current is 10309,82611 Ampere or 10,3 kA with an overcurrent relay setting is 0,25 which contrary to the attached relay setting of 0,4 with disparity amount of 0,15. The calculation indicates quite far results so that to optimize the performance of the overcurrent relay, the relay setting needs to be reset based on the consideration to accomplish a faster relay.
