Abstract :
Every thermal power plant has a fuel cost that determines the economic value of a power plant. Economic dispatch is used to determine the optimal generation costs. Generation scheduling which considers the changes of load over time is the development of the conventional classification of generation the fact that it counts the constrain ramprate in each power plant unit. Spinning reserve is also considered to keep the reliability of a system to keep the lifetime steady, thus when there is a unit fails, there another unit will have to supply the load in the non-operating power plant. This research is comparing the quadratic programming method and lambda iteration method. The classification of generation with conventional method doesn?t regard the constrain ramprate and spinning reserve, while quadratic programming can be used to do a calculation of the classification of generation without having to violate the spinning reserve and constrain ramprate of each power plant unit. The result of total generation cost using the quadratic programming method is $11.128,35 and using the lambda iteration is $11.078,86 due to the lambda iteration doesn?t consider ramprate and spinning reserve which cause the decreasing of power plant lifetime and its support system.
