Abstract :
In the operation of the generator, there are still some problems. One of the disturbances is loss of excitation disorder. When there is a loss of excitation, the weakening of the magnetism between the rotor and the stator causes the synchronous generator to lose synchronization and absorbs reactive power from the network system which is used as a source of amplification in the generator. Resulting in overheating of the rotor and stator coils. Of course it will damage the insulation
contained in the coil. To protect the generator from the disturbance, PLTU Suralaya unit 5 uses a loss of excitation relay. This final project discusses how to calculate the value of the relay loss of excitation settings based on the manual book.
Furthermore, it will be compared with the data installed in PLTU Suralaya unit 5. From the results of calculations , it is found that for zone 1 the Xm value is 2.4 ohms, the phi value is 13.43 ohms and for zone 2 the Xm value is 2.4 ohms. the phi value of 35.2 ohms. The results of the phi and Xm calculations are still in the relay setting area so that if a disturbance occurs, the excitation of the relay works according to its zone.
