Abstract :
Speed droop is a percentage that expresses the sensitivity of a generating unit responding to changes in frequency. The characteristics of the speed droop value affect how fast the governor regulates the flow of fuel to the prime mover to increase or decrease the active power produced by the generator so that the frequency stays around its nominal frequency. In the electric power system in Indonesia the frequency used is 50 Hz so the power plant must keep the frequency in a stable state. The purpose of this study was to analyze the operation of the speed droop governor at Muara Karang Unit 5 Power Plant. This study uses quantitative methods with descriptive statistical analysis techniques. The source of the data used is the operational data of Muara Karang Unit 5 Power Plant. Data will be analyzed based on the determination of the speed droop value that affects the response of the generating unit to changes in frequency values. Based on the analysis of calculations with the value of the Muara Karang Unit 5 Power Plant speed droop at 5%, the frequency range that can be responded by the governor is ± 2.5 Hz. If there is a change in the value of the frequency exceeds the range that can be responded by the governor, the frequency regulation will be made with secondary regulation.
