Abstract :
Generators are the main component in electricity generation. Generator is a device that is able to convert from motion energy into electrical energy. Reactive power is needed by consumers to generate magnetic fields in inductive electrical loads. The reactive power regulation can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the excitation current. Excitation current is a DC electric current that is supplied to the generator rotor to generate a magnetic field. The excitation current is proportional to the reactive power output of the generator. This is indicated by the increase in reactive power of the generator which was previously at 3.252 MVAR to 4.6892 MVAR after the excitation current was increased from 9,688 A to 11.58 A for the most significant result. The data used are the highest load output results every month in 2018. The calculation of reactive power results using the triangle power formula are close to the reactive power values measured by the largest difference of 0.0472 MVAR or 2.3838%. All reactive power is positive so the generator condition is lagging. The output voltage tends to be stable close to 11.8 kV with the biggest relative error in November 2018 at a value of 1.017%, this is because the increase and decrease of the excitation current is intended to keep the generator output voltage stable
