Abstract :
In the operation of the electric power system, reliable service quality is required. One of the categories is the voltage value received by the customer does not experience a voltage drop. Based on SPLN No. 1: 1978 the service voltage is a maximum of 5% and a minimum of 10% of the nominal voltage. The low voltage network is 220 V.the minimum of drop voltage is 198V and the maximum of over voltage is 231V, One of the locations that had a voltage drop problem is Jalan Pantai Harapan Indah, Medan Sunggal. Based on the analysis conducted by the network division of PT. PLN ULP Sunggal, it turned out that
the voltage drop that occurred on Jalan Pantai Harapan Indah, Medan Sunggal was caused by the long-distance location from the SL 278 distribution substation, which was 500 meters with an SR cable. Therefore it was necessary to replace the SR cables in rows to become JTR cables. This was conducted because the current required is proportional to conducting cable?s diameter. Therefore, it was necessary to replace the SR cable so that the voltage at the customer's house on Jalan Pantai Harapan Indah, Medan Sunggal produces a voltage value following the standards set by PT PLN that is 220 V. after
changing the cable from SR cable to JTR cable, it known that the voltage value obtaine by the customer on Pantai Harapan Street, in Medan Sunggal, is getting better, that is,
before experiencing of voltage drop from 27% phase R, which is 60,08 volts, after doing the cable changing, the cable voltage drop is better, it?s 5,1% which is 11,32 volt. From this analysis, it can be said that cable replacement method to overcome the voltage drop is a successful
