Abstract :
Air Preheater is used to increase boiler efficiency in a Steam Power Plant by utilizing the heat from the exhaust gases from the boiler to increase the air temperature for combustion in the furnace. After overhauling the Air Preheater, n cleaning the hot end and cold end elements, changing bearings and readjusting
some parts of the motor, the performance of the Air Preheater (effectiveness and x-ratio) has increased while the Air Leakage is reduced compared to before the Overhaul. The Air Preheater in Unit 4 of PLTU Suralaya is a Regenerative type Ljungstom Bi-Sector Air Preheater. To determine the performance (effectiveness and x-ratio) of the Air Preheater used in Unit 4 of the Suralaya PLTU by referring to the parameters LMTD, the number of transfer units (NTU), conditions of the Inlet Flue gas temperature, gas side efficiency and air side efficiency. As for the working conditions of the Air Preheater based on 100% load (400MW) during the operating period. Based on observations accompanied by calculations, it turns out that the different surface area between the Mill Air Preheater and Main Air
Preheater also affects the performance of the Air Preheater because the temperature of the Inlet Flue Gas is also different. The results of the effectiveness and x-ratio of the Air Preheater will be inversely proportional to the value of air leakage, the smaller the air leakage value, the greater the performance of the Air Preheater.
