Abstract :
Multi-Effect Desalination is a tool to produce distilled water using brine. In its working principle, a desalination unit rely on evaporation and condensation process of seawater, evaporation occurs due to latent heat transfer between steam and seawater wherein hot steam is flowed in desalination pipe and the heat is conducted through the pipe surface. Some damage occurred in the desalination component with failure forms in the form of stress corrosion cracking, formation of oxide scale, pitting corrosion, and thinning of the heat exchanger pipe walls. Where the failure was caused by the presence of non-condenseable gas (NCG), chloride, and the ineffectiveness of the chemical cleaning process. The analysis was carried out through a literature review by reviewing 7 international journals, using the systematic literature review (SLR) method which pays attention to each test result carried out in the journal. The test consists of visual performance, SEM-EDAX, and chemical composition tests on the material that has failed. Where the purpose of conducting a literature review is to gain an in-depth comprehension of material failure in the desalination unit.
