Abstract :
Swamp soil has a high water content and pore count, so it is necessary to improve soil properties so that there is no structural failure due to the collapse of the subgrade or foundation and result in damage to the upper structure. To
improve the properties of the soil, chemical stabilization was carried out using eggshell powder in terms of physical and mechanical properties through testing direct shear. The use of eggshell powder was taken with variations of 2.5%, 5%,
7.5%, 10% and 12.5%, respectively. From the variation of eggshell powder mixtures, the optimum percentage value for the addition of eggshell powder is 5%. Original Soil with moisture content value 40,9134%, Gs = 2,5268, LL = 65,5215%, PL = 24,9237%, IP = 40,5978%, SL = 27,3244%, shear angle = 11?5'35,16" and cohesion C = 0.1564 kg/cm2 stabilized with a mixture of 5% eggshell powder giving a difference in results with the value of water content 32,0902%, Gs = 2,5350, LL = 59,9100%, PL = 30,5340%, IP = 29,3760%, SL = 24,1371%, increasing the shear angle to 58?46'55,2'' and cohesion C = 0.0600 kg/cm2. From the results of this study, the use of eggshell powder can be a good malternative material for stabilization in swamplands.
