Abstract :
Power factor has an important role in electrical systems throughout the world because it determines the efficiency of a power distribution system. This shows how effectively the burden of consumers using electricity. Most of the electricity load in power distribution systems is inductive. These burdens cause the power factor to be low. Operating the load at a low power factor draws more current which will produce large copper losses, poor voltage regulation and reduce the capacity of the power distribution system. The use of a fixed capacitor bank to improve the power factor at changing loads is not an effective approach, because the fixed capacitor bank works manually. Therefore we need a capacitor bank that can improve the power factor following the installed load conditions. The capacitor value control system is automatically controlled using the Arduino Mega microcontroller to fit the load requirements. This study aims to create an alternative power factor correction tool that works automatically to increase the value of the power factor and as an effort to improve the efficiency of power capacity. The method used is the design and manufacture of tools and experimental studies. The test results obtained an average value of power factor measurement galat is 1.5973%. The results of the test with a knife sharpener machine load test with an average power factor of 0,67 can be increased to 0,86.
