Abstract :
On the power transformer, one of the protections installed is a restricted earth fault (REF) relay. The REF relay is a relay that functions when there is a one-phase fault to the ground at the neutral point which cannot be detected by the differential relay and protects the neutral point when the wire breaks from the NGR. The method used in this research is quantitative method. Where the research obtained data in the form of numbers from the Serpong Substation and mathematical calculations were carried out to determine the amount of current when the NGR wire broke, the working current of the REF relay and the working time of the REF relay. The amount of current before breaking of NGR is 288.675A and after breaking of NGR wire is 1026.33A. Testing the working current of the relay is 91.45%. From the calculation of working time it can be concluded that the REF relay does not have a time delay or protects spontaneously when a disturbance occurs which cannot be felt by the differential relay at the transformer neutral point.
