Abstract :
Synchronous generators require the magnetic field of the amplifier to generate electrical voltage in the terminal. The amplifier's magnetic field on the synchronous generator is derived from the excitation current produced by the exciter system. The excitation current flows on the coil of the field in the rotor so that the rotor generates a magnetic field so that the conductor will cut the magnetic force lines and there will be an electric motion force on the conductor so that tension arises. When the excitation current is set to less than nominal, the magnetic flux of the stator will decrease and the output voltage of the generator decreases. Excitation changes as well as reactive power and generator voltage have the highest and lowest values. Changes in the amount of excitation current will affect the variation in the load on the amount of reactive power. The input settings on the generator are the field current and frequency input settings, the field current input is used to regulate the amount of reactive power output and voltage raised by the generator. Based on the data of the reactive power calculation, it can be seen that the minimum power factor value is 0.89 at the time of excitation current (If) in the rotor of 3688 A and the maximum reactive power of 166,875 MVAR, so that if the excitation current value gets greater it will affect the output of reactive power of comparable value and will affect the power factor that is inversely proportional so that the system power factor will be smaller.
