Abstract :
In the distribution of high-voltage AC power, sometimes there are still disturbances where there is a conductor that is in direct contact with the insulator, one of which is the corona that occurs in the use of air insulators which if sustained can cause damage to the equipment. This final project describes the research results from the breakdown voltage test on air insulation, where the breakdown voltage value obtained as a parameter of the air insulation resistance possessed by simulation using needle- and ball-shaped electrodes with the type of aluminum and copper material that adjusts the use of conducting materials in power distribution. current electricity. Starting with discussing theories related to research such as blowing voltage, Classical Gas Law, failure of gas insulation, Ionization, to the corona phenomenon. Furthermore, data collection was carried out by testing using variable aluminum and copper electrodes in the form of needles and balls and the distance applied was 0.5 to 2 cm with each increase of 0.5 cm, the test was carried out only by using similar electrodes both in shape and from the material. . Furthermore, the calculation of the field strength and kinetic energy at the time of ionization, it can be concluded that the influence of the wider shape and the electrode which has a greater conducting field strength makes the breakdown voltage value increase, because it makes the kinetic energy greater for the occurrence of insulation failure in air
