Abstract :
The insulator is an insulator component that functions as a place to support the conductor wire on the Medium Voltage Air Line (SUTM). Because the insulator is in an open space, there are many factors that can cause the insulator to not function properly, including being influenced by the level of air pollution in which the insulator is installed. Pollutants attached to the surface of the insulator result in a decrease in the ability of the insulator. In testing the effect of pollutants on an insulator, several pollutants are used in the test, namely salt pollutants and dust pollutants, where the value of this salt content is taken by direct testing methods carried out in the High Voltage Equipment laboratory on the PLN Technical Institute campus (IT PLN). The results of the test show that the greater the level of pollutants attached to the surface of the insulator, the greater the decrease in the value of the breakdown voltage on the insulator. In addition, pollutants attached to the surface of the insulator can also cause a decrease in the resistance value on the surface of the insulator. The layer of pollutants that exist on the surface of this insulator can also result in the emergence of leakage current values. This is because the pollutants attached to the surface of the insulator form a conductivity layer that forms a dry band (dry band). If the surface of the insulator is fed by a continuous current it can cause heating.
